You ever click through a Renpy game and suddenly realize the whole save-the-world plot is actually about whether you're gonna be a cosmic dom or a benevolent space daddy? Yeah. Say Yes kinda sneaks up on you like that.
Matthew Lockhart is a mess. 21, fresh out of college, dad's a disappointment machine, and he's got the personality of a wet towel until you, the player, literally interface with his brain. You're not just some text on a screen, you're a presence. A guide. The game frames it as you being an entity that needs his dumb ass to prevent the apocalypse. So you start poking around his psyche, and that's where the ethical dilemmas get sweaty. Do you manipulate him with promises of pleasure, get him hooked on your praise and the hot scenes you can unlock, or do you keep it clinical? The first time I made him trust me by, uh, 'rewarding' his compliance, the power trip was real. The sci-fi logic here is that his emotional and physical submission literally unlocks the path forward. There's this one scene where you're in his neural space, a weird abstract bedroom, and you can choose to just... take over. The moans aren't just audio, they're a feedback loop for your strategy. Felt like a pervy puppeteer. But then later, when he starts questioning if his feelings are real or just your programming, I actually felt like a piece of shit. Which is hot, in a confusing way.
The romance is a slow burn if you want it to be, or a fast track to a mindfuck. Literally. The branching isn't just about which girl or guy you push him toward, it's about how much of his free will you shred in the process. The game asks if humanity deserves saving if we're all just slaves to desire anyway. Heavy stuff for a game where you can make a hologram strip.
The character models have that slightly stiff Renpy 3d thing going on, but the facial expressions during the intimate bits are surprisingly decent. The voice acting is nonexistent, which is a bummer when you're trying to hear him beg. Modders haven't touched this one much yet, which is a crime. Imagine a community patch that adds more reactive dialogue when you're being a total bastard. Or a DLC where you can play from Matthew's perspective, feeling the intrusion. That'd be a mindbender. Anyway, the game lets you be a god and a voyeur at the same time, and I'm still not sure if the ending I got was salvation or a very elaborate, universe-scale edging session.
