The Red Rider shows up and I immediately think of that one Digimon movie, the third one, with the weird digital horse. Not important. What sticks with me after closing the browser is how the rougelike elements just sort of happen to you. You're walking through these outskirts areas, grass patches that feel lifted from a Gameboy cartridge but wrong somehow, and then a battle starts. No transition. Just fur and pixelated lust.
The new side quest had me chasing Brimirny for what felt like forever. Not complaining. The animations, all seventeen of them, have this janky quality that I can't decide is intentional or not. Like when a Pussymon uses a special move and the screen freezes for half a second before the explicit scene plays out. It's the kind of thing that would make me rage quit a normal game but here it adds to the whole bootleg energy. The cheat manager in the special edition, by the way, completely breaks the progression curve. I turned it on for five minutes and suddenly had access to a legendary scene that I'm pretty sure was meant for episode 29. No idea what Hydragodon is but I saw things.
The humor lands somewhere between intentional parody and genuine outsider art. One of the new huntable creatures has a move set that's just three variations of the same thrusting animation with different particle effects. I laughed. Then I kept playing. The story, what little I followed between encounters, introduces characters who will apparently matter later. The Red Rider has dialogue that reads like it was translated through three languages and back. I kind of love it. The furry tag is doing heavy lifting here, some designs are genuinely creative while others look like someone discovered the smudge tool in Photoshop and never looked back. Four side quests and six main ones, though I lost count after the third because the quest log is buried in a menu I kept forgetting existed. The boss fight at the end of the new area triggered twice for me, a bug that I should probably report but honestly getting the scene twice wasn't the worst thing.
