The first time Michelle and Sam hook up, the screen does this thing where the colors get all hazy and the city pop track fades out slow. You know that moment in a Wong Kar-wai film where everything just hangs there, seconds stretching into something almost painful? Yeah. That. Except here you get to see exactly where Sam's fingers go, and the art doesn't shy away from showing tongue work either. The oral scenes are genuinely hot, detailed 2DCG with this soft focus that makes everything feel sweaty and intimate, not clinical.
I spent way too long on the clothing choices. Like, an embarrassing amount of time. There's this one green dress Michelle wears that I kept going back to, just to see how the fabric creases when she sits down. The game's set in 1986 Hong Kong and someone on the team clearly had a thing for retro fashion because the attention to those details is almost obsessive. The lesbian romance builds slow, lots of teasing glances and accidental touches before anything explicit happens, which makes the payoff hit harder. Multiple endings too, so you can absolutely fuck things up if you push too fast. I got the bad ending first try because I kept picking the horny dialogue options. Classic.
The family drama stuff is... fine. Michelle's mom disapproves, there's cultural tension, whatever. It's well written but I kept clicking through those parts to get back to the dates. The Asian setting feels authentic though, not some tourist brochure version. And the relationship between the two women actually develops in ways that make sense beyond just the sex scenes. Though the sex scenes. Right. There's this one moment in Sam's apartment where the power goes out and they're lit by candlelight and I swear I held my breath for the entire sequence. The teasing in this game is unreal. I just wish the text speed wasn't so slow. There's no slider for it. Drove me nuts.
